AIMS
The Basic Training for Ships subject to the IGF Code course, aims to provide seafarers with the essential knowledge and skills required for safely operating ships using gases or other low-flashpoint fuels the IGF Code. It prepares participants to understand alternative fuels' unique hazards and operational protocols, ensuring compliance with international safety standards and regulations.
This Basic Training for Ships subject to IGF Code meets the training requirements laid down in Regulation V/3 para 5, section A-V/3-1 and table A-V/3-1 international convention on Standards of training, certification and watchkeeping for seafarers (STCW), and code 1978, as amended and Model Course 7.13
Objectives:
1. Understand the principles and requirements of the IGF Code.
2. Recognize the hazards associated with low-flashpoint fuels like LNG and other gases.
3. Acquire knowledge of safe operational practices, including fuel containment, handling, and bunkering procedures.
4. Develop the ability to respond to emergencies involving gas-fueled ships, including the use of emergency equipment and systems.
5. Gain an understanding of the operational procedures for propulsion systems and fuel storage on ships subject to the IGF Code.
6. Ensure compliance with STCW regulations and best practices for operating IGF-compliant ships safely and efficiently.
