Course Overview

AIMS:

The Aims and Objectives of the training are to ensure that the delegate gains the required knowledge and understanding of the particular hazards and properties of H2S and appropriate emergency response actions should an H2S-related incident arise.

OBJECTIVES:

On successful completion of the training modules delegates must be able to explain:

    • Hydrogen Sulphide - how it is formed and where it is found.
    • Other names used to describe H2S.
    • An emphasis on safe and unsafe behavior, not a sole dependence on lagging indicators such as safety statistics.
    • Respectful, trusting, open communication between management and employee groups about all aspects of safety in the workplace.
    • Pre-use checks of personal detection devices and EBA.
    • Operating personal H2S detection equipment (including checks).
    • She was responding to an alarm.
    • Donning & Operating (including checks) an escape breathing apparatus(EBA) with a mask within 30 seconds.
    • They were donning and operating (including checks) an EBA with a hood within 30 seconds.
    • Connecting to a pressurised cascade breathing system with an activated EBA, which has been donned correctly
    • I am disconnecting from a pressurised cascade breathing system with an activated EBA, which has been donned correctly.

COURSE CONTENT:

  1. Introduction to hydrogen sulfide (H2S)
  2. Understanding H2S Hazards, Health Hazards and Effects of H2S Exposure
  3. Dangers of H2S
  4. Hydrogen Sulphide Detection and Monitoring
  5. Symptoms of Exposure & H2S Exposure Control
  6. How to protect against H2S and Safe Work Practices
