
AIMS:
The course is based on "Code of safe working practices for merchant seafarer" and meets the requirements under ISM code to perform duties for Risk Assessment & Risk Management on board Merchant Vessels effectively enhancing safety on board ships. The Course also addresses Marine Accident and incident Investigation, based on IMO Model Course 3.11.
OBJECTIVES:
Understand the principles of risk management and their application in the maritime industry.
Conduct effective risk assessments before carrying out onboard operations.
Identify hazards, evaluate risks, and implement suitable control measures to reduce workplace accidents.
Promote a proactive safety culture through effective risk management practices.
Understand the principles and methodologies of marine accident and incident investigation.
Collect, preserve, and analyze evidence following an onboard accident or incident.
Identify immediate, underlying, and root causes using recognized investigation techniques.
Prepare comprehensive incident investigation reports with practical corrective and preventive actions.
Contribute to continual improvement of the ship's Safety Management System (SMS) by learning from accidents and near misses.
