Course Overview

AIMS

The Bridge Team Management (BTM) course is designed to ensure that participants acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively manage a bridge team in line with international standards. The course emphasizes safe navigation, effective communication,teamwork, and adherence to the principles set forth in the STCW Code and IMO Model Course 1.22.

This course satisfies regulation I/12 of the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers 1978, as amended 2010, and Section A-VIII/2, Section B-VIII/2 and Section A-II/2-6, of the STCW Code and requirements as per IMO Model Course 1.22

Objectives of the Bridge Team Management Course:

1. Introduction to BTM: Understand the fundamentals of effective bridge team

management.

2. Bridge Resource Management: Learn to optimize the use of personnel, equipment,

and information.

3. Situational Awareness: Maintain awareness of surroundings and vessel positioning.

4. Watchkeeping: Implement proper practices for safe navigation.

5. Navigation & Collision Avoidance: Plan and execute navigation to prevent collisions.

6. Emergency Procedures: Respond effectively to emergencies on board.

7. Communication & Teamwork: Enhance clear and effective collaboration among the

bridge team.

8. Human Element: Address human factors like fatigue and stress that impact

operations.
