Aim:

To equip maritime personnel with the knowledge and skills to effectively handle volatile organic compound (VOC) hazards onboard tankers by implementing safe operational practices, using proper personal protective equipment (PPE), and responding efficiently to VOC-related emergencies.

Course Objectives:

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  1. Understand the nature and risks associated with Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) on tankers.
  2. Identify sources of VOC emissions during cargo operations.
  3. Implement appropriate safety measures to control and reduce VOC emissions.
  4. Properly use and maintain Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) during VOC-related tasks.
  5. Detect and respond to VOC leaks, spills, or overpressure scenarios.
  6. Execute ship-specific emergency response protocols related to VOC incidents.
  7. Conduct drills and training exercises to enhance crew readiness.
  8. Maintain compliance with relevant IMO regulations including MARPOL Annex VI, ISM Code, and SOLAS requirements.
  9. Monitor, record, and report VOC incidents and mitigation actions.
  10. Foster a safety culture on board to minimize VOC-related risks.
